We are pleased to welcome you on our website, where we are happy to inform you that the Ireland-India Council (IIC) initiated a range of activities in the last 14 years that has substantially contributed in making India better known and understood in Ireland, and Ireland better known and understood in India, with its limited resources, but strongly committed for its endeavours.
Irish-Indian relations mostly established during the freedom struggles of the respective countries against a common imperial empire. Political relations between the people of our two countries have largely been based on socio-cultural and moderate political ties, although since last decade economic ties have also helped to build strong relations in present time. Indo-Irish relations were greatly strengthened by the luminaries like Jawahar Lal Nehru, Éamon de Valera, Rabindranath Tagore, W. B. Yeats, James Joyce, and, above all, Annie Besant and Mother Teresa.
Broaden the ties between Ireland and India the IIC is closely working with the concern authorities of government departments and private sector to provide better understanding, cooperation and support on various issues in the mutual interest. The Council provides a number of services to its members, companies in developing business relations between the two countries.
We believe that year 2012 is important in terms of the range, quality and outcomes of IIC activities. IIC would like to thank all our partners, colleagues and authorities of the both governments and especially our members for their vital contributions.
